I was asked a question: Why should florists charge a design fee as a percentage?
So I want to answer the question and clarify what a design fee should be.
Our design fee is one of the most important pieces of our pricing puzzle.
The design fee covers our time and expertise! This includes the time spent in consultation, creating recipes, placing orders, picking up and processing flowers, and the design time itself, of course. There’s a lot of time, care and understanding that goes into the work florists do!

Don’t let your designers or freelancers “do their own math”. Provide the formulas or cheat sheets so designers understand how much product they have to work with.
You can make money in this business if you follow the flower shop model.
You may not retire with a multi-millionaire, but if you can make a living as a florist and do the work you love and also provide value to your clients, then you’re doing good work!….work you can be proud of.

As I say in my live chat, if you need profit clarity, FLOWER MATH EXISTS.
How I create recipes and wholesale orders that are “tight & right”.
If you buy too much, you’re going to lose money. every. single. time.
It’s one thing to know the formulas, it’s another thing to apply the formulas…
you must follow recipes (and I give you lots of ’em in Flower Math) to make sure you don’t overbuy.
