Pricing floral arrangements is not a mystery…
But I was asked a question: Why should florists charge a design fee as a percentage?
So today, I want to answer the question and clarify what a design fee should be.
Your design fee is one of the most important pieces of your pricing puzzle.
The design fee covers your time and expertise! This includes the time spent in consultation, creating recipes, placing orders, picking up and processing flowers, and the design time itself, of course. There’s a lot of time, care and understanding that goes into the work florists do!

Important Takeaways:
- Don’t let your designers or freelancers “do their own math”. You must provide the formulas or cheat sheets so designers understand how much product they have to work with.
- You can make money in this business if you follow the flower shop model that I teach in Flower Math.
- Most florists may not retire with a multi-millionaire fortune, but if you can make a living as a florist and do the work you love and also provide value to your clients, then you’re doing good work!….work you can be proud of.
Again, as I say in my live chat, if you need profit clarity, FLOWER MATH EXISTS.
Including how I create recipes and wholesale orders that are “tight & right”.
Because it doesn’t matter what you charge if you overbuy! If you spend too much, you’re going to lose money. every. single. time.
It’s one thing to know the formulas, it’s another thing to apply the formulas…you must follow recipes (and I give you lots of ’em in Flower Math) to make sure you don’t overbuy.
