Hey, Floralpreneur®!
Welcome to my tips for Home-Studio Florists. You’ll find a special YouTube Playlist on this page and to download the PDF with 10 Tips for Home Studio Florists Click Here.
I’ve been a home-studio florist since 2002.
The truth is, I always dreamed of having a flower shop, but as it turned out it simply wasn’t in the cards for me. The “perfect” flower shop opportunity never presented itself, so a home-based business was the logical way for me to start! I’m about to start my 24th wedding season and I still love my business.
Having a home-studio has allowed me to build my business on my terms. I am able to stay small and profitable because my business runs lean! And I still provide the client care and service of a professional flower shop. (But without the daily deliveries and walk-in customers.)
Whether you’re starting a home-based floral business as you transition into a new career, or you’re a seasoned pro with 3 decades in the biz, like me, I hope you’ll enjoy these tips for running a successful & profitable home-based business.
And if you could use some specific help taking your business to the next level, don’t hesitate to reach out! We can chat one on one about your business, and I have a full selection of online classes so you can work at your own pace with on-demand trainings and templates.
You’ll find a full course list here and you can learn more about booking a 1:1 call with me here!

It’s not always easy to run your own business, but in my experience as commander in chief of my one-woman-floral army, I find it very rewarding.
And when you love floral design, well, it’s a dream gig to get to work with flowers, even with its challenges.
How’d you get started as a floral designer?
I’ve been a floral designer for over 30 years. I have a Bachelor of Science in Plant & Soil Science from The University of Vermont, as well as a minor in small business.
I started my own business, Floral Artistry, out of the kitchen of our 2nd floor apartment and built a home-studio in our garage a few years later.
I’ve always been a floral designer! In fact, I took my first hands-on floral design class at a summer workshop in 5th grade. I enjoyed it so much that when began looking for my first job, my mother suggested I apply at the floral cart in the mall:
“Remember how much you enjoyed that floral design class when you were a kid? They’re hiring at the flower cart….why don’t you apply there?“
The rest as they say, is history. {you can read more about me here.}
